  1. Cloud and Distributed Computing. This refers to providing a service over the internet. Additionally, Cloud computing allows downloads, edits, and uploads, and publishing.
  2. Statistical Analysis and Data Mining. It refers to the service that focuses on the process of discovering and identifying structures while transforming the data into information.
  3. Web Architecture and Development Framework. This refers to the skill in designing and developing framework of web applications.
  4. Middleware and Integration Software. Skill in making application development process easier.
  5. User Interface Design. This one refers to maximizing user experience and easy use.
  6. Network and Information Security. This refers to the development of ever-changing security to prevent unauthorized access or use.
  7. Mobile Development. This one pertains to the skills in making websites user-friendly when using a mobile device such as your cell phone.
  8. Data Presentation. This pertains to the ability to organize data into tables, charts or graphs.
  9. SEO/SEM Marketing. It pertains to increasing web presence.
  10. Storage Systems and Management. This one’s pertaining to using hard discs and backup systems

Also, based on the list, LinkedIn career expert, Catherine Fisher explains that this list actually reveals a variety of trends on the global job market, which includes:


Lighter demands for marketers. Fisher explains that compared to their 2015 data, there was a lighter demand for marketing people for 2017. Basically because, ”things have changed”. While SEO/SEM are still there, it dropped five spots from being on top 4 to top 9. Fisher said that, “Demand for marketing skills is slowing because the supply of people with marketing skills has caught up with employers’ demand for people with marketing skills.”


Supreme data and cloud reign. Apparently, according to Fisher, “Cloud and distributed computing has remained in the No. 1 spot for the past two years. Following closely on its heels is statistical analysis and data mining, which came in No. 2 last year, and No. 1 in 2014.” She also said that these skills are in high demand because of the superiority of technology. It also shows that employers need people in their companies with cloud and distributed computing skills in order to stay in the competition.


User interface design is the current trend. Fisher explains that the reason behind it is because “Data has become central to many products, which has created a need for people with user interface design skills who can make those products easy for customers to use.”


Don’t get overwhelmed with these information. Again, this does not mean we are stuck to just having or acquiring these skills to succeed in finding or landing in a job. Of course, we can still pursue whatever it is that we are good at – whether it is technology-related or not.

If you are someone who doesn’t have these skills, but would like to pursue to have a sure slot in the job world, there are ways how you can acquire them. You don’t necessarily have to go back to college and earn a degree related to it. You can instead look for trainings and short courses related to any of these skills.
