“How can I make money online from home?” Has this question ever crossed your mind? If your answer is yes, then, read on to know some of the best ideas on how to make money online while at home.

How can I make money online from home?

This question also lingered in my mind too some time ago. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t like I hated my job or something, but, I guess like everyone else, I was at a point in my life when my priorities were changing especially since I got married a little late (in my perception), and my thought then was to build a family as soon as I can.

In addition to that, I noticed how online work was slowly becoming a trend. In fact, a lot of my friends who used to be part of the corporate world has transitioned to becoming either freelancers or online sellers, and they did really well.

I must say, their successes encouraged me and pushed me to try it as well. I thought, who knows, I might succeed, too! I mean, it was all about taking chances, and if I don’t I can always go back to the corporate world.

Fast-forward to last year, I finally received the greatest blessing in my life yet – our firstborn. However, along with his coming, I became really blessed too with my online work journey. The timing was quite amazing. I had to juggle being a first-time mom and being an online businesswoman. I actually thought it was a good thing that I left my job and worked online or from home before our baby was given to us because I was already settled with my online business/work.

Also, I didn’t have to go through the process of choosing between staying home to take care of our baby or to go to work and have a babysitter take care of our baby instead.

Now that I am already at this point in my life, I thought of sharing some ways or ideas on how to make money online from home.

For sure, I am not the only one who asked myself, “How can I make money online from home?”

So, for those who, like me have asked themselves, “How can I make money online from home?” I am sharing with you some of what I believe are the best and most applicable ways or ideas on making money online from home.

  1. Blogging

Let’s start with what I love most. Blogging is one of the best jobs/businesses I have ever had in my life. That’s quite cheesy, I know, but really, I am just so glad blogging was introduced to me.

Before I got to make money through blogging, I have been blogging since I was young. I have had, in fact, built so many personal blogs in the past. Although my professional career has nothing to do with writing, I actually have loved it since I was in high school. I used blogging then as my way of journalizing my thoughts and ideas.

Jumping to today, I am already making money through blogging. No, not from my blogs from way, way back, but because I have made my passion into something profitable. For me, the best job or business, and the most successful ones are the ones you are most passionate about or something that you truly love. Well, I believe that love and passion are key secrets to success.

With that said, I hope I am able to make a point in there.

If you are someone who loves writing or are very passionate about writing, I highly encourage you to make it into something profitable. Blogging is one of the easiest yet very fulfilling ways to do that.

Particularly for stay-at-home moms like me, I recommend you to get into blogging because it is probably one of the most flexible ways of making money online – schedule-wise. By building your own blog, you get to be your own boss. You get to decide when you are going to write, what you will write, and how you are going to write.

If you are not familiar with how to get into blogging or how to build up your own blog, there are actually a lot of tutorials online. All you have to do is follow what’s being said. It’s super easy though, so you do not have to worry about that really.

To give you a little inspiration, by blogging, you can make as much as more than $100,000 annually (to be honest though, some bloggers earn this much on a monthly basis) if you get to monetize your blog correctly.

Now, how do you monetize your blog? Well, the three most common ways of monetizing a blog are through Google AdSense, affiliate marketing, and sponsored posts or ads. These are easy to do once you have already established your blog and have managed to get a good number of followers or web traffic. Again, if you want to know more about these, there are so many online references out there.

TIP: Before getting into monetizing your blog, make sure to take time to read and study the ways you can make high web traffic. High web traffic is your key to earning a lot of money through blogging.

  1. Freelance Writing

Before I even got into building my own blog, the first thing that came to mind when I thought about how can I make money online from home was freelance writing.

During the time when I left my previous day job, freelance was really a hit. In fact, most of my mommy friends who were freelancers were writers. I was actually encouraged by them to get into freelance writing as well. I thought, why not? Why should I not make use of my thoughts and ideas to make money for me and my family, right?

I remember my first ever freelance writing job, I got it through, which is now known as Upwork. Since I was new, I only had a fair rate or salary. But, as I jumped from one client to another, my pay got higher and higher because that is how freelance writing works. The more you get experienced, the higher you get paid. In some cases though, you get to decide how much you are going to charge your client.

As a fulltime writer, someone like you can earn at least $40,000 a year and can get to as much as more than $100,000 annually as well. While it may sound unbelievable, well, I say, believe in it because it is true! Believe especially if you know in yourself that you are good. Oh, of course, apart from being good, you also have to be really hardworking and determined.

TIP: I highly recommend you focus on a certain kind or field of writing. To give you an idea, legal and medical writers are paid more compared to other fields of writing.

  1. Social Media Management/Marketing

Are you someone who is very active on social media? If your answer is yes, then I would say social media management or marketing is the best way for you to make money online from home.

This job is also fitted to those moms who have a marketing background or used to work for a marketing company or firm. If you want to continue practicing what you have learned or your previous professional in a more flexible and in an easier way, this is the way to go.

As a social media manager, your job includes creating a social media (marketing) plan for your client, you will handle their social media accounts, and you will create, edit, and publish posts, as well as (in some cases) handle customer queries and concerns.

As a social media manager, you have to be very knowledgeable about the different social media platforms today – of course, apart from the famous ones like Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and Twitter. Also, you need to be very organized, and you have to have excellent communication skills especially since some (if not most) of your potential clients are companies.

The nice thing about this job – like anything else on this list is that most clients let you decide on your work schedule. At the end of the day, most clients are after your output. Regardless of your work schedule, as long as you deliver what is expected to form you on time and on point, you will surely have no problem with the job.

How much you make as a social media manager depends on how many clients you have and how experienced you are in doing the job. However, to give you an idea, most social media managers these days make around $1,000 up to $10,000 a month. Indeed, very competitive and very fair enough, right?

TIP: Invest in a really good smartphone because you will need that. While a laptop is nice, using a smartphone is better because you get to be more mobile.

  1. Virtual Assisting

I remember when I asked my friend a few years ago about how can I make money online from home, she immediate suggested becoming a virtual assistant. Well, at that time it was one of the most popular and well-paying online jobs. Needless to say, she was a virtual assistant herself and she was earning well. My friend also thought that virtual assisting is one of the best transition jobs for moms who just left their corporate jobs to be a fulltime mom.

I did work as a virtual assistant too, and I must say it is indeed one of those jobs that will help an easy transition from corporate to work from home setup.

As a virtual assistant, your job is to do administrative tasks like writing, researching, email management, scheduling appointments and meetings, data entry, social media management, editing, and in some cases even graphic design. You can be an all-around assistant, but later on, I discovered that focusing on a specific skill makes you earn bigger compared to doing everything – that sometimes may tend to be too exhausting for a work from home mom.

In my opinion, virtual assisting is good for those who are not so sure yet what they really want to do. You know, some people, they tend to get lost sometimes because of transitions. As you do this kind of job, hopefully, along the way, you get to discover your specific niche and then eventually focus on it.

As a virtual assistant, you can make around #25 to 100 per hour. So, imagine if you work, five hours a day that means, earning between $125 and $500 per hour.

By the way, anyone can be a virtual assistant. That is actually one of the plus points about this job. Some clients do not even require a bachelor’s degree, for as long as you have the skills, you are hardworking, and you deliver the job excellently, you can get hired.

TIP: Once you have already mastered VA jobs, slowly transition to the specific task that you think you do best.

  1. Transcribing

This is another online job example that needs no bachelor’s degree. However, to qualify as a transcriptionist, you have to have the following:

– Excellent listening skills

– Exceptional typing skills

– Outstanding communication (grammar, spelling, etc.) skills

Apart from those three, you also have to be patient. As a transcriptionist, your job is to record down every single word uttered in an audio or video file assigned to you. While most of these files are only around 15 to 30 minutes, depending on your client or the company you are affiliated to, some are even longer.

You might be wondering why excellent communication skills are required if your job is to just type down what you have heard on the file. Well, while some assignments may require you to deliver a verbatim type of transcription, others would require an edited version. Meaning, you have to fix broken sentences or grammatical errors.

As a transcriptionist, one can earn between $7 and $21 per hour. You do not have to worry about setting a specific schedule to do the job because you can transcribe anytime. Like any other job out there, delivering your work on time an excellently are the keys to succeed in this kind of online job.

TIP: I highly recommend ensuring you have a personal workspace at home because as a transcriptionist, you have to spare yourself from distractions. The less distracted you are, the more you get to focus and finish your work sooner.

  1. Online Selling (via Amazon FBA program)

If you are someone who is business-minded but because of the demands of motherhood, you could not start a business with a physical store, then you can try online selling instead.

I guess it is safe to say that because of the comforts it gives to buyers, there is a growing demand for online selling. I mean, I, myself is a fan of online shopping. I love the fact that when I am stressed out from everything, I can do retail therapy right at the comforts of my home. Well, of course, I would love to go real shopping, but you know, when you have a baby, it’s just hard going out (because it literally means bringing a lot of stuff with you, which means it’s exhausting).

Anyway, one of the best online selling platforms for me is Amazon. I guess it’s pretty obvious why – because it is popular, and it has a high customer base not only in the United States but worldwide.

To start off an Amazon business, all you have to do is find good deals on products from your favorite retail stores (or even online too!) and then resell them on Amazon for a higher price. Yes, you do not necessarily build or come up with an original product. You can start off from reselling stuff. I tell you, this is the perfect business for moms! Imagine, you get to earn from reselling an already established product or brand.

Now, I mentioned about FBA program. FBA means Fulfillment by Amazon. It works easily. All you have to do is ones you already have your products, you ship it to Amazon, and they take care of the rest, which means, they handle storage, shipping to buyers and customer service. It’s like running your business without having to deal with the most crucial parts of a business.

Let’s admit it, customer service alone is a daunting task, and as moms, we do not need extra exhaustion, right? With FBA, they take care of those. You spare yourself from added stress so you can focus on finding the right and the sellable products. As well as in marketing your products – ensuring that you get a lot of avid buyers.

Some of the most successful Amazon sellers get to earn six digits a year! Amazing, isn’t it? Well, very inspiring, really.

TIP: Always be on the lookout for sale items or better yet, make friends with store managers and employees so you get to have a heads up whenever the store is going on sale. Also, to know what products are sellable, try visiting the store before closing hours and check for almost sold out items. That’s your clue on what products to shopping next.

  1. Renting Out A Room or Space

If you want to spare yourself from thinking – I mean getting into a job that requires thinking or typing or communicating with clients, one of the ways to make money online while at home is by being an Airbnb host.

If you have a spare room at home, and you do not mind having a stranger at home, you may want to venture into Airbnb hosting instead. You may also consider listing your extra space or if you have an extra property that is not being rented out.

Basically, it is offering your space to tourists who need a homey place to stay in. Airbnb is, by the way, a cheaper alternative compared to living in hotels.

I highly recommend this to moms or families whose homes are near local attractions and tourist destinations. I swear you can earn big from this. In fact, I know a friend who was able to generate $500 a month on an average from her condo unit, which she listed on Airbnb.

TIP: You can include a cleaning fee in your listing so you have money to pay someone else to keep your space tidy. Do not worry because renters are used to that. They acknowledge and are okay with paying additional for cleaning.
