However, it is as if there is magic, that suddenly, when your baby is born, you feel like you can give up everything just to be able to take care and witness every single milestone of your baby. Indeed, our outlook on life changes, the way we see like in general becomes different, and our career? We feel like it can be on the backseat for now.

But here’s the thing. Thanks to technological advancement, today, moms no longer have to choose. Because today, there are so many online careers to stay at home moms to choose from. And what makes it even more pleasing is the fact that these jobs are flexible, and pay well, in fact, a very decent amount of money.

VARIOUS WORK FROM HOME FOR STAY AT HOME MOMS

It is probably safe to say that there is work available for every type of stay at home moms. With so work for stay at home moms out there, you will surely not run out of options.

Depending on what your situation is, for sure, there is a work especially online opportunity that will fit you.

Now, before we move on to our list of careers for stay at home moms, you may want to check this video by Kat Theo wherein she talks about nine popular work from home jobs that are perfect for a stay at home moms out there:

With that said, here we go with some of the best and most flexible careers to stay at home moms that pay well, too!

Renting Out Baby Gear

One thing’s for sure, you have baby gears that have been outgrown already, or sometimes you received two same things – while the other is used, the other one is just in the stockroom.

One of the most common baby gear that parents need especially in the US is a car seat. According to Nemours KidsHealth, “using a car seat, also called a child safety seat, is the best way to protect your kids when they’re in a car”. Thus the need for one wherever the baby goes.

Now, here’s a brilliant idea from BabyQuip.com. You know, there are families traveling with babies. Let’s admit it, baby stuff alone like strollers or car seats can cause excess baggage. To address that problem among traveling families, BabyQuip.com offers a solution by letting other moms in the area rent out their baby gears for traveling families with babies.

All you have to do is put up your rental website and choose the specific baby gear that you want to rent out, identify the price of renting it out, specific delivery areas if there are any, and also consider other fees like delivery or transportation fee, or a refundable security deposit just in case unforeseen events happen to the gear.

It is definitely one of those flexible, and if I may say, career idea for stay at home moms. By renting out your baby gears, you can earn as much as $1,000 especially if you are living nearby local attractions or tourist destinations.

Renting Out Space at Home

One of the most flexible and well-paying careers to stay at home moms is being a house host.

If you have a spare room or even a spare property, you better make money that by listing it out on Airbnb.

Airbnb is a website and an app that connects house hosts and occupants. Most of these occupants are travelers from both local and international places. What is nice about Airbnb is it is very well-known among tourists and travelers, and that it has already gained so much trust from its users (both the hosts and the occupants).

How much you earn will depend on what you offer or the amenities, as well as the location and local attractions nearby, and of course, on how big space you are renting out. Of course, the better the amenities, the nearer you are to tourist spots, and the more comfortable your space or property is, the higher your profits will be.

If in case you do not know how much to make in a room or a property that you are renting out, Airbnb has a tool to help you out with that or you can check other spaces or properties and find out how much they are renting out their places.

What is nice about this one is, you do not even need a laptop or a desktop computer to be able to manage your bookings. All you need is a smartphone, and you are good to go.

Be an In-Home Childcare Provider

If you love kids and you love making an impact with such young lives, you may consider becoming an in-home childcare provider. It basically is like opening up your home for other kids while their parents are away for a vacation or for work.

Yes, it is babysitting but the only difference is, instead of you going to the homes of the kids you are going to babysit, it’s the kids going to your place and spending the whole time their parents or guardians are away.

We highly suggest this kind of job to those moms whose children are already on their toddler years and up. We just can’t imagine a mom with a tiny baby being able to take care of other children at the same time.

Being an in-home provider, you do not only benefit from it by earning a few bucks but your children, as well as they, get to meet new friends or playmates. They will get to practice your social skills.

It is important to note though that depending on the state where you are from, there may be certain requirements for you to be a legit in-home childcare provider. You better check that out. But before that, you can, as they say, test the waters first by providing your services to friends or neighbors. If you think you can manage it for real, then that’s the time you process all the necessary legalities. You may want to check out Care.com also to find opportunities for childcare.

As a childcare provider, you can make $28,000 to $52,000 a year! That’s a pretty good amount of money to help pay the bills, to shop, and of course, to save up for your baby’s future.

Online Tutoring

If you have a teaching or education background, online tutoring or teaching is one of the careers to stay at home moms that are best for you. Why? Well, apart from the fact that you get to earn a few bucks, you also get to practice what you love.

Some of our online tutor friends were able to earn as much as $22 per hour by simply tutoring kids online. With online tutoring, the number of classes you attend to in a day depends on you. While most of the companies have a minimum required number of hours in a month, how you will achieve that will depend on you.

That said, it is definitely one of the most flexible careers to stay at home moms. When it comes to where you can find online tutoring or teaching jobs, you have two choices, either you search for it at third party job listing sites, or you can go directly to online teaching websites and apply.

There are several online tutoring websites, some of them are VIPKid, QKid, Tutor.com, My Tutor 24, SmartThinking.com, Homework Tutoring, and Tutorvista.com.

While most of these online tutoring jobs focus on teaching the English language, you can also teach major subject matters like Mathematica, Science, and Technology, etc.

Virtual Assisting

For those moms who used to work as an administrative assistant, this one’s for you. Although, generally speaking, a virtual assistant job is very much open for anyone – with or without work experience.

There is a high demand for virtual assistants nowadays because a lot of people are becoming more comfortable with the virtual job setting. Most of the companies or individual clients that hire virtual assistants are those that have so much to do on their plate but have no enough to do them by themselves but are not keen on hiring a regular employee. Thus, they rely on virtual assistants instead.

The tasks of a virtual assistant vary from one client to another. However, some of the most common virtual assistant tasks are content writing, email management, client schedule management, data entry work, social media management, and in some cases you may also be asked to do graphic design, as well as customer service, and phone calls.

But the key to earning more as a virtual assistant is to find a specific skill and focus on that. Meaning, if you are excellent in data entry work, then you offer solely that specific skill. The more skilled you are, the better, because that means you get to make more money.

Certainly, virtual assisting is a very flexible online job for stay at home moms. If you are interested to get into virtual assisting, you can check job listing sites like Upwork and Freelancer.com. Also, you can choose whether to apply for a part-time or full-time job, or a project-based job.

Online Mystery Shopper

Who doesn’t love to shop, right?

But here’s the thing, are you in to be an online mystery shopper? Well, if you haven’t heard about it yet, what an online mystery shopper does is to go on certain retail shops online and then check the functionality of the website, their processes and customer service, and then you will have to make your comments or recommendations about your whole customer experience on the site. It’s basically like a typical mystery shopper sans walking and shopping in real stores.

It’s a fun and thrilling job for stay at home moms. However, if you want big earnings, it may not be the ideal job for you.

Some websites where you can apply as an online mystery shopper are Secret Shopper, Market Force, Pinnacle, Quest for Best, IntelliShop, and Perception Strategies, Inc.

Be an Online Seller

There are different ways to sell products online, but we are going to focus on two of our favorites. One is Amazon and two is Etsy.

With Amazon, you can sell products through retail arbitrage wherein you get to resell actual products on the market via Amazon at a much higher price. Usually, you buy items that are on sale or those from the outlet stores, take a photo of them, and then upload it on Amazon. Retail arbitrage is a selling method that is commonly used by most online sellers on Amazon, and we thought it is very perfect for a stay at home mom because you no longer have to conceptualize a specific product, rather you just sell whatever is already there.

Also, another thing that makes Amazon appealing to online sellers these days is their Fulfillment by Amazon or FBA program wherein for a minimal amount, FBA members get to enjoy hassle-free online selling. As a member of the FBA program, Amazon handles customer service and shipping on your behalf, which admittedly is very helpful especially if you are a stay at home mom. It’s like running a business with professional helpers around, right?

The other online selling platform that we love is Etsy. This one, however, contrary to Amazon, is the best online site for those who have unique and creative products. Well, that is what Etsy is all about anyway. It is an online marketplace for one of a kind, creative, and/or vintage products.

So, if you love arts and crafts, this is definitely the place to go if you want to sell them. Etsy caters not only retailers but wholesalers as well. If for instance you have no time to create a specific product but you know where to source craft materials, you can also sell them in there.

Both Amazon and Etsy have a large customer base, not only from one area of the world but from all over the globe. Don’t you just love the idea of being able to sell your products to people from other places?

With regards to how much you can earn, it really depends on the product and how you market them. While both online selling sites have sure buyers, you also have to take into account that you also have a lot of fellow sellers who may be selling the same stuff or product concept as yours. So, you better step up your game as well.

Get Into a Transcription Job

Another one of those well-paying and very flexible careers to stay at home moms is transcription.

As a transcriptionist, your job is to record down the words you hear from an audio or video file. While the job may sound so simple, it actually is not. We thought it is an ideal job for moms who are patient, as there would be times when you will need to sit for a long period of time transcribing a file.

While most transcription jobs require a verbatim output, meaning, you record the words and expressions as it is, other clients would require an edited one. That is why apart from excellent listening and typing skills, excellent grammar skills will also be very helpful.

What we like though about this job is it does not require a specific educational degree for you to get hired. For as long as you pass the transcription test, and you got the skills, you can get into the job.

For those mommies who are interested to get into this job, you may look check websites like Speechpad, Upwork, Scribie, TranscribeMe, Quicktale, GoTranscrip, and Tigerfish.

Get Into Proofreading or Editing

Proofreading and editing are two totally different things – just in case you are not aware of that because oftentimes people thought it the same thing.

On one hand, proofreading refers to the act of finding grammatical, spelling, and punctuation errors. Proofreading is done once editing is finished. It’s like the last step before an article or any written material is published whether on or offline. As a proofreader, you have to an eye for detail.

Editing, on the other hand, refers to the act of rewriting, restructuring or reconstructing sentences or paragraphs. As an editor, it is very important to have excellent grammar and writing skills.

According to Glassdoor, a proofreader can make an average of $45,000 a year, while an editor can earn an average of $54,000 annually.

For both jobs, while having a journalism or communication background is an advantage, they’re not necessary. Anyone can land into these jobs, as long as they have the skills and they know certain writing styles and are familiar with editing and proofreading symbols.

If you are interested to get into either or both proofreading and editing jobs, you may look into websites like FlexJobs, Fiverr, ProofreadingServices.com, Scribendi, Wordvice, Proofread Now, and Editor World.
