When you are a mom, daily routine can get a little boring and you sometimes find yourself wanting to have someone to share your thoughts or just spend some time and do fun things. While your husband or your kids are there, sometimes you just want to be with friends.
Personally, I consider the time I spend with friends as my way of relaxation and you know, it’s like part of my “me” time. I love to chat with them over a cup of coffee and a slice of cake or do shopping together. I am just glad my husband supports me with this. He, in fact, even encourages me to meet my sisters from different moms, and look for fun things do with friends.
Speaking of fun things do with friends, whether you are a mom like me, a wife, or a single woman, there are just so many things that you and your friends can do to make your meet-ups more enticing and memorable.
With that said, I am sharing with you some ideas of fun things do with friends.
Fun Things To Do With Friends
Once you are a mom, perhaps you will agree with me, you will always look forward to fun things do with friends. Being with friends would mean a lot. For me, for instance, it is my way to recuperate and you know, to get to know myself once again – because to be honest, there are times when you get too engrossed with motherhood and other stuff that you sometimes tend to forget who you really are as a person. And yes, being with friends helps me get back on track.
Anyway, while going on dinner dates with your fellow mommy friends is good, adding more creative options into your friendship dates would make it even better. Thus, here are some of the fun things do with friends – particularly with your mommy friends:
- Join moms’ group.
Some may find this idea cheesy or something but it is actually a nice idea to walk into a room full of strangers with your best buddy. If it does work out for both of you, then great. Otherwise, at least you had one experience to talk about and probably laugh off in once you go down memory lane in the future!
- Watch a movie.
It may be very usual, but watching a movie with your mommy friends makes a lot of difference. Make sure to watch the movie that both of you really like – and please, no to animated ones. You already have had enough of that at home for sure!
- Got to the gym and work out.
Hitting the gym and doing some workout routine is more fun if you tag your mommy friends along. So, leave your kids at a childcare center or to your husbands, and go shape up.
- Do grocery shopping.
Grocery shopping is probably one of every mom’s favorite activities. For some, it is their only time away from the kids – you know, alone time. But for others, grocery shopping means a perfect time to spend with fellow mommy friends. It’s actually nice to share your thoughts about certain products or share information and ideas with one another about different products or whatever you want to talk about.
- Walk in the park with your babies.
If no one else is going to care for your kids, why not load your babies into their strollers, and then get some fresh air at the nearby park! My friends and I love doing this. It’s very refreshing. Apart from the time we get to spend to bond, it’s also a nice activity for our kids. They get to play around with each other too!
- Attend baking class.
I love baking! I remember once I bumped into my favorite pastry chef’s social media post, and I learned she was conducting a special class! I got so excited, and I just knew I need to make sure my friend joins me. Guess what? It was one of the best things we did together! Apart from learning a lot from the class, we discovered we can actually start a business together out of it!
- Go shopping.
From time to time, we need new stuff for ourselves. You know, the reality about mom’s life is that we tend to forget about our needs because we always focus on our kids’ needs. However, we should not forget to spend a little for ourselves too! So, instead of shopping for your kids’ new clothes or toys, why not you and your friends go shopping for yourselves this time! It will be fun for sure! After all, I think it is most women’s favorite activity with friends, right?
- Go to the spa.
I love spa dates! I guess it is safe to say that most women love going to the spa! It is a great way to relax and rejuvenate. What better way to spend spa time than with your mommy friends, right? So, take some time off from taking care of your kids – leave it to your hubbies or other caregivers – do take care of your needs this time.
- Take turns in organizing certain sections in your house.
You do not need an interior designer to be able to upgrade the look of a certain section in your home. Sometimes, all you need is a little help from your friend. Personally, I find this as one of the best fun things to do with friends. Instead of spending on a professional interior decorator or designer, why not ask your friend’s help. Once you are done with your place, you take turns – this time, you help your friend upgrade the look of her place too.
- Schedule a playdate for your kids.
A lot of people thought that playdates are only for kids. Well, you are wrong. A playdate is also a great time for you, mommies, to spend time with each other. While your babies play, why now play board games too! If would be fun, for sure!
- Invite each other’s family for lunch or dinner.
Another fun thing does with friends is hosting a family lunch or dinner with them. It’s also a nice way for your husbands or partners as well as kids to hang out and get to know each other. Don’t you just love the idea that you have an extended family in your friends’ families? If I may say, my husband and I love inviting our friends and their families at our place. It is our way of not just bonding with them, but also making sure get to nurture our relationship with our extended families.
- Get manicures and pedicures.
Mommies need pampering too! So, invite your friends and go to the nearest nail salon and have your manicures and pedicures done. Don’t you just love the feeling after having your nails done? All the more if you did it with your fellow mommy friends! I bet the salon will be filled with laughter.
- Cook meals together.
Schedule a day when you and your friends can hang out and cook meals together. It sure is going to be fun! If you want to, do barbecue grilling, and then sip a glass of wine after! You see, hanging out and spending time with friends does not necessarily have to be done in a resto or other gimmick places or coffee shops. Sometimes, hanging out at one of your friends’ houses and cooking meals together is already fun!
- Join a fun run!
Joining a fun run is definitely one of the fun things do with friends! The idea of getting that much-needed run to keep your well-being healthy, plus the time you get to spend with your friends is definitely for the books! If you want to, you can actually make it a regular habit with your friends! Join as many runs as possible!
- Do a garage sale.
Decluttering is in, and what other ways to do with your stuff then sell them out, right? So, instead of doing it all by yourself, why not you ask your friends to join you in doing a garage sale! Ask them to bring their unwanted stuff to your place, and schedule a day or two selling your old stuff to those who may want them. It’s going to be super fun for sure. The downtime will surely be filled with chitchats!
- Spend an afternoon at a coffee shop.
This is very common among mommy friends. Spending an afternoon at their favorite coffee shop and just talk about anything and everything. Whenever me and my friends do it, we find ourselves walking down memory lane after, and then eventually talking about our families, our kids, our partners, and of course, our dreams for ourselves and our families. It’s actually a great way of sharing your thoughts and dreams with your well-trusted friends.
- Try arts and crafts.
It’s nice to try something new, right? So, whether you are the artsy-fartsy type of not, why don’t you try doing arts and crafts! You will surely be surprised at what you can do out of ordinary materials, and yes, how creative you actually are.
- Go to the beach.
Probably one of the most fun things do with friends is, of course, heading out to the beach! It sure is a great idea especially if you live on or near a coast or even just a lake. Needless to say, the temperature is right. Beach bumming is definitely more fun when spent with your closest friends.
- Go bowling.
If you are a sporty type, why don’t you try bowling with friends! Make it fun by betting – like if you lose, you will treat your friends over dinner. Otherwise, whoever loses will treat you and the rest of the gang. If I may say, I am not a sporty type, but I do love bowling. My friends and I always have a good laugh when someone misses.
- Go for a hike.
If you want something more interesting rather challenging, then go for a hike instead. Hiking is more fun to do when you do it with friends. You don’t have to do it overnight. There are hiking locations that can be done in just a few hours – that way your kids and hubbies will not miss you that much! By the way, it’s also a great way to recharge and you know, spend some quality time not just with friends, but yourself too.
- Schedule a sleepover.
If you have a weekend house or one of your friends does have one, then why not schedule a sleepover with them? You can either do it by yourself, or you can invite each other’s, the entire family! It would be fun. I can imagine your kids running around and playing with each other, while your husband’s drink. You and your friends? Well, perhaps a bottle of wine shared plus non-stop chitchats will do.
- Attend a concert of your favorite band.
Back when you were younger, perhaps you and your friends have had some concert dates! So, why not recreate those moments! It’s a great and fun way to do with friends! It feels like Spice Girls having a reunion! It’s just that you are not performing. Kidding. But really, it’s going to be super fun!
- Attend a yoga class.
Yoga is one form of relaxation that is common among moms. It’s one of those activities that help us get on track especially with our bodies. While having yoga alone is good, especially so you can concentrate well, bringing your friends or doing it together with your friends will definitely be a lot more fun! Afterward, you can dine together and catch up on each other’s lives.
- Hold a pool party.
When the husband is out for a business trip, why not invite your friends over for a pool party? I’m sure your friends are going to love it! The pool party on a hot summer day is definitely the best! A pool party is best especially if you do not live near a beach area. Oh, don’t forget your wine and some grilling stuff. These are staples at a pool party.
- Try a team sport.
If you want to go a little extreme with your friends, why don’t you try doing team sports? You can try field hockey, flag football, basketball, or volleyball! I’m sure your friends are going to love it too. It’s one of the best ways to stay fit, at the same time, a good avenue for you and your friends to bond and spend quality time together.
- Play video games.
Millennial moms will sure enjoy this fun activity together. If it’s impossible to go out because of your babies or you just simply want to spend time at your friend’s place, one of the fun things to do would be playing video games. Make sure you got some of your favorite video games loaded.
- Schedule a pizza night.
You know, when a woman becomes a mom, simple things become extra special. When was the last time you and your friends had pizza night? Why don’t you relive that moment now, and you know, reminisce the good old days. Needless to say, relive those moments when you hang out together, watch movies on DVDs (this time around it’s Netflix) and splurge on pizzas. It will sure be very memorable, and fun too!
Importance of Doing Fun Things with Friends
Before I end this, I think it is just very important to understand why spending time with a friend is important. Apart from nurturing the relationship, spending time and having fun activities with your friends especially for a mom is one way of detaching from your daily routine, which basically is necessary to avoid burnout or if you are a new mom, post-partum depression.
Spending quality time with friends is a great way to share our innermost thoughts and dreams, as well as our challenges and struggles particularly in being a mom and a wife. While we have our husbands who may be our best buds too, it still is different when you get to share thoughts with your friends.
Also, apart from simply spending time, making an effort to check or think of fun things do with friends is one way to ensure you do not get bored and also a good way to try something new or do something you used to do when you guys were still young.
A time spent with friends is definitely one of the best times ever. So, the next time you meet up with your buddies make sure to add fun activities (although I know for sure the company of your friends is already fun). I hope that I was able to give you different ideas of fun things do with friends. Enjoy!
