Before we go on with the processes, we just want to say that creating a mom blog has so much benefit on us.

Apart from the fact that you can eventually monetize it and earn up to six digits in a year (no, that’s not being exaggerated because there are actually a lot of moms earning that much these days!), having a mom blog allows us to share a little of us to other people or to fellow moms. It gives us an opportunity, a platform where we can educate, inspire, and encourage other people especially fellow moms.

Having a mom blog is ultimately a blessing – by all means.

Fun fact, according to research made by Scarborough Research, which was published by Mashable, 14% of American moms having at least one child blog about parenting or they turn to blogs to get advice on different mommy-related topics. In addition, there are about 3.9 million moms in the US who identify themselves as bloggers. However, only about 500 of them are considered influential or popular ones.

Now, perhaps you are already so eager to know how to build a mom blog. Well, that’s exactly what we are going to discuss next.

HOW TO CREATE A BLOG

Creating a blog comes with a process — pretty much like anything. A process will help us stay on track and ensure we are doing the right thing. After all, the least we want is to have wasted time, effort, and in some cases, money.

So, allow us to run down some of the things you will need to consider when starting up a mom blog.

– Choose Your Niche

When we say niche, we particularly mean the topic that you want to tackle on your blog. It could be about motherhood, parenting, pregnancy, lifestyle, travel, etc. Whatever it is that you love or you like to talk about.

When in the process of finding your niche, it may help to ask the following questions:

What do I love talking about? – It could be something that excites you or something that you are fond of.

What experience or expertise do I have? – Have you worked in a particular industry before? Or maybe you had a difficult pregnancy that you want other moms to be aware of? Something like that.

Is this a topic that can bring me extra bucks? – One of the ultimate reasons why a lot of moms or people in general blog is for them to be able to monetize the blog eventually. So make sure you also take this into consideration.

– Choose Your Blog Name

Once you are done deciding what specific niche you are going to write or blog about, then immediately start brainstorming for a blog name.

A blog name is basically your website name. You can use your name or you can create an entirely different name. We suggest though that when creating a name, keep in mind your niche, at the same time the messaging of your blog. If it’s a mom blog, then the name has to reflect it being a mommy blog.

Once you have a name, check its availability. You can simply do it via Google search. The results will let you know if it is still available.

– Pick A Blogging Platform

In this blog, we specifically recommend starting with WordPress.org. Apart from the fact that it is the most common blogging platform, it’s also very easy to use. Needless to say, customizing your site is possible and that it opens you up to a lot of options particularly when monetizing your site in the future.

When using WordPress though, you will need to have a hosting, which in this case is Bluehost. A hosting refers to the access to the server that will run your blog. If you find it hard to understand, think of it this way, your blog is your apartment, while your domain name or site name is your address. Meanwhile, the hosting serves as your landlord.

Good thing is, hosting sites particularly Bluehost is inexpensive. Later on, we will discuss more how to create a WordPress mom blog using Bluehost as your hosting site.

– Set Up Your Blog

Well, once you are done with the previews processes, then it’s time to set up your mom blog.

But how do you do that?

Now, before we move on, you may want to quickly view this video tutorial by Cole Webb on how to create a blog using WordPress and Bluehost. This one’s very informative, and really helpful especially for beginners.

HOW TO CREATE A WORDPRESS MOM BLOG ON BLUEHOST

As our title suggests, we are going to specifically talk about building or creating a WordPress mom blog using Bluehost as your hosting site.

But before that, you may be wondering why Bluehost?

Well, allow us to run down a few reasons why we are particularly recommending the use of Bluehost:

  • As compared to other hosting sites, Bluehost is very easy to use. One thing that makes it very ideal for mommas — especially since we do a lot of things. So, as much as possible, if we can save time from every task, we will take advantage of that.
  • Bluehost web hosting provides technical support. This, in particular, is very useful especially to those who are not technical.
  • With Bluehost, you get a FREE blog domain. Blog domain can get a little pricey, so having it for free is definitely a great deal.
  • You can use WordPress through Bluehost for FREE. Again, who doesn’t love free stuff, right?
  • As compared to other web hosting sites, Bluehost is definitely CHEAP. When starting a website, one of the major concerns always is cost. Costing should not be a problem when going for Bluehost as you can start your own blog at a very affordable price of $2.95 per month.
  • If you find it not right for you, Bluehost offers a guarantee. But before quitting, consider asking around first on how to go with it. You can also ask Bluehost for help if you want to or read on to know how to go about setting up a mom blog using WordPress and Bluehost.
  • You get to enjoy a self-hosted blog site. Eventually, if you want to monetize your blog, you can only do so if it is self-hosted.

You see, these are just some of the many reasons why apart from us, a lot of bloggers out there highly recommend using Bluehost. Needless to say, it’s just really one of the best web hosting sites there is today.

So, now, having said all that, let us proceed on how to start mom blog using WordPress on Bluehost:

Register a Domain Name

One of the first things you need when starting a WordPress mom blog using Bluehost web hosting is to come up with a domain name. This is crucial because unlike other elements on your website or blog, this cannot be easily changed. So, better to spend enough time to really think about your domain or blog name.

Once you have decided with your domain name and you’re ready, and upon checking, you found that the name is still available, then you may now start processing registering it on Bluehost. If you want to make things a lot easier, you can also get your domain name directly via Bluehost.

Note that when you get a domain name outside Bluehost, this may cost you a little. However, getting it directly from Bluehost will allow you to enjoy a FREE domain for the first year for as long as you buy 12 months’ worth of Bluehost web hosting.

To be honest, doing this will make everything worth it signing up for at least 12 months of hosting. After all, this is saving a good amount of money. Apart from that, you also get an affordable monthly price when you buy at least 12 months of hosting via Bluehost.

Now, if you want an even better deal, you may want to purchase the 36-month plan instead

Purchase a Hosting for Your Blog Site

Building a WordPress mom blog on Bluehost is very easy and convenient. But before we talk about that, let us talk about money matters.

How does setting up a blog costs?

As you can see above, the cheapest, at the same time, one of the commonly purchased Bluehost web hosting plans is the Basic plan. It will only cost you $3.95 a month, which is definitely cheap given all the perks and features it has. More so, it is really one if not the cheapest deal you can find all over the internet. Needless to say, one of the most recommended among bloggers and website creators.

Even if you opt for the more advanced plans, it still is way cheaper compared to other web hosting sites out there.

But of course, we are just talking about a 12-month subscription. The price drops even when you pay for a longer subscription period.

Note that as a starter, the Basic plan is basically a great deal already. You can do so much with it. Eventually, if you think you need more features, you can upgrade to a higher plan.

Another thing that may cost you when it comes to starting up a blog is the Domain Privacy Protection, which basically refers to the service that hides all your contact information away from the public eye, particularly on WHOIS listing. This may cost you not that much though.

A Domain Privacy Protection on Bluehost costs $0.99 per month or $11.88 annually, which is still cheap compared to others.

Apart from what we have mentioned, there are no other items you need to buy or purchase on Bluehost. Make sure that when signing up, you hide any extras that are listed. Otherwise, you will be paying for features that you do not necessarily need – and that is a waste of money.

We just want to point out again that when choosing a hosting plan, always choose at least 12-months. Cost-wise, this is very efficient. Month to month basis is an option, but we say no to it as this is less effective.

Again, by signing a 12-month plan, you will get to enjoy a few perks that are very important when building a mom blog or any blog for that matter. The perks include free domain name, lower pricing, as well as the convenience of not having to renew subscription on a monthly basis. Note that not being able to renew your website on time means it will be automatically be shut and that is too risky especially if you are monetizing it.

Once you are ready to start building your blog, all you have to do is follow these very simple and easy steps:

– Go to the Bluehost website and click the “Get Started Now” button on the homepage.

– Choose and click the plan you are interested in.

– Enter the domain name you purchased or sign up for a new domain name on Bluehost.

– Enter your personal information as required by Bluehost.

– Enter your payment information.

– You will then be asked to create a password. Make sure to secure it as this is very important.

Connect the Domain to the Web Hosting

Before we proceed, note that this is only applicable to those who will buy a domain name separately.

Remember, we mentioned earlier that when it comes to the domain name, you have two options. Either you purchase it separately or take advantage of Bluehost’s free domain whenever you purchase at least a 12-month subscription plan.

When it comes to a domain name, GoDaddy is one of the most popular sites where you can purchase your domain. Although there are a few more sites where you can buy your domain name, for today, we’ll focus on GoDaddy and Bluehost.

Once you’re done purchasing your domain via GoDaddy, you will then have to connect it to your domain hosting account. Good thing is, GoDaddy has a full support page that will allow you to set nameservers for your domain name.

According to the GoDaddy website:

“Nameservers are your primary DNS controller, and without the correct nameserver settings, your email and website won’t work correctly. Your domain must be registered with GoDaddy in your account to edit nameservers. If you’re going to use nameservers provided by another company, you’ll need to have those available before beginning.”

Now, to be able to connect it to your web hosting site, follow the below steps:

  1. Log in to your GoDaddy Domain Control Center. (Need help logging in? Find your username or password.)
  2. Select your domain name from the list to access the Domain Settings page.
  3. Scroll down to Additional Settings and select Manage DNS.
  4. In the Nameservers section, select Change.
  5. Choose the option that works best for you:
  • Connect my domain to a website I’ve built: Use our wizard to connect your domain to a website built elsewhere, such as Squarespace, Weebly or WordPress.
  • I want to use GoDaddy default nameservers (recommended): We’ll automatically update your domain to a set of GoDaddy nameservers. This option is only available if you’re not currently using GoDaddy nameservers.
  • Enter my own nameservers (advanced): Enter the nameservers given to you by your hosting provider.

Note: We recommend keeping your nameservers with GoDaddy for optimal domain security. You can use one of the other options to connect your domain without changing nameservers.

6. Select Save or Connect to complete your updates.

Once done with the process, allow up to 48 hours for all the changes to take effect on your site. Also, expect that during this period, your website, email, as well as other web services may be interrupted.

Install WordPress on Bluehost

This is the last and final step before you get to start fixing your mom blog and launch it for the world to see.

What’s nice about Bluehost is that it makes everything easy particularly creating a WordPress blog.

Here’s how:

  • After you have created your password, Bluehost will direct you on the next few steps that you will need to do in order to be able to kick off your blog.
  • Bluehost will ask you to choose the theme of your blog. What’s nice about WordPress and Bluehost mix is that you get to choose from a wide variety of WordPress themes. The theme can be changed anytime you want to. Please note that there are two types of themes — the free ones and the paid ones.
  • Click the “Start Building” button.
  • On the next screen, you will then be asked to choose between “Business” or “Personal” — if you are building a mom blog, then you should choose “Personal”.
  • Welcome to your blog! Congratulations! You made it!

You see, the process is pretty simple. It’s not that technical as you think.

Just a few general tips when navigating WordPress especially when starting your first few posts:

  • When adding content, and we mean blog post, look for “Posts” on the left side of the screen, and then look for “Add New” and start blogging!
  • When adding an image, just click the “Image” icon, and then a pop-up screen will appear. Click “Upload Media” or “Select Files” and then choose the images or videos you want to upload.
  • If you want to add “Widgets,” just go to “Appearance” situated also on the left side of the screen.

FINAL THOUGHTS ON MOM BLOG

You see, starting a mom blog is very simple, and very easy – thanks to WordPress and Bluehost!

Every mom is able to make one – all you have to do is trust yourself and know that will a little bravery and drive, you will eventually find yourself launching your very own mommy blog!
