7 Moringa Cookies Recipes That Are Deliciously and Nutritiously Good

Style and Wellness

Moringa can be consumed in different ways – by including it in your favorite home dishes, making it a smoothie or juice, or by baking it into muffins, cupcakes, or cookies! If you are a cookie lover per se, you will surely find moringa cookies not just deliciously but also nutritiously good.

I love baking. I bake cakes, muffins, cupcakes – name it, I most likely have done it. But one of my most favorites is baking cookies. I love cookies, and I am just glad that my family loves cookies too. Apart from the fact that it’s easy to do, it lasts long.

When I got pregnant, I was so worried about my breastmilk supply. I was so scared of not being able to produce enough for my baby. Back then, I was so serious about breastfeeding my baby. After all, breastmilk is the best for babies, right?

So, during my last trimester, I spent most of my time looking for supplements, as well as ways to boost my breastmilk supply. I then encountered moringa. I learned that it is used particularly of moms from Southeast Asian countries to help them have a better breastmilk production.

Immediately, I research ways to consume it – and then, I found moringa cookies recipes! You can just imagine how happy I was. For a cookie lover like me, finding out that I can make a cookie using moringa was like heaven.

But apart from increasing breastmilk supply, I also found out that moringa has so many health benefits. So, when I started baking moringa cookies, I made sure to make not just for myself but for the whole family – so we all get the nutritional value that moringa provides.

With that said, later on, I will be sharing with you my most favorite moringa cookies recipes. For now, let me share with you first what moringa is all about – especially to those who are not quite familiar with this tree.

GETTING TO KNOW MORINGA OLEIFERA

For those who are not familiar with moringa oleifera or simply called as moringa, it is a plant tree that is common in Asian countries like India, Philippines, and Nepal. The tree grows in countries with tropical weather. No wonder why it also grows in some parts of Africa, South America, as well as Oceania.

Moringa, also known as the “miracle tree” or “tree of life” has recently become famous because it has been found to be rich in essential vitamins and minerals.

At first glance, moringa doesn’t seem to be any different from any other plant. But once you dig deeper and know more about its nutritional value, how you see this plant will surely change completely. I, for example, have never seen moringa as an ordinary tree anymore. After I found out the amazing health benefits you will get from consuming moringa, it totally something that should be stapled in your daily diet.

Moringa tree is very unique. Its leaves, flowers, seeds, fruit, bark and even the roots are edible. They all have their respective nutritional value. However, of all the parts, moringa leaves are found to be the most jam-packed with essential nutrients. Needless to say, the most beneficial in treating or preventing certain health conditions.

Nutritional Facts

Just so you know, when baking moringa cookies, you will be using moringa powder, which made from moringa leaves. Moringa leaves, as mentioned earlier was found to be the most nutritious among all the other parts of the moringa tree.

Moringa leaves were found to be rich with the following vitamins and minerals:

  • Iron
  • Calcium
  • Vitamin A
  • Vitamin B
  • Vitamin B1
  • Vitamin B2
  • Vitamin B3
  • Vitamin B6
  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin E

Furthermore, earlier research found that moringa leaves contain a higher value (on a per gram basis) of certain vitamins and minerals compared to other fruits and vegetables like the ones below:

  • 17x the Calcium Content of Milk
  • 25x the Iron Content of Spinach
  • 15x the Potassium Content of Bananas
  • 9x the Protein Content of Yogurt
  • 10x the Vitamin C Content of Carrots
  • 7x the Vitamin C Content of Oranges

HEALTH BENEFITS OF MORINGA

Moringa has many uses. Apart from being a great source of essential vitamins and minerals, it also helps prevent or cure certain health concerns. Some of which are as follows:

  1. Moringa oleifera helps increase breastmilk production.

Many nursing moms will love this. Yes, you read it right. Early researchers have found that moringa is capable of boosting breastmilk production, which leads to a very good breastmilk supply.

Moringa oleifera contains all essential vitamins and minerals to help lactating moms increase their breastmilk production. Needless to say, it also is able to keep the moms themselves healthy and strong by providing them their daily iron and calcium needs (moringa is found to be rich in iron and calcium content).

So, if you are a nursing mom, you better start adding moringa oleifera to your daily diet.

  1. Moringa helps increase your natural energy levels.

People need high energy. We all do. Without the right level of energy, we won’t be able to do what we need to do on a day-to-day basis. We will not be able to do our daily tasks at home, and in the office.

Amazingly, moringa, with its richness in vitamins and minerals, is also capable of providing us with high energy level – exactly what we need every day. In fact, many people who have taken moringa supplements attested to how their level of energy has changed since they started including moringa on their daily routine.

In particular, moringa contains Vitamin B, which is a vitamin that is very essential in absorbing magnesium and potassium in the body – resulting in the reduction of mental problems like depression and anxiety, as well as fatigue and common headache. In addition, moringa oleifera also contains Vitamin B1, which is the one responsible for converting sugar into energy.

Taking moringa helps promote relaxation both mentally and physically. Needless to say, it also contains vitamins and amino acids that help increase your sex drive.

  1. Moringa helps control blood sugar levels.

One of moringa’s natural effects is to reduce blood sugar levels, which makes it ideal for people suffering from diabetes. Diabetes, just so you know, is one of the most common reasons for death nowadays. So, imagine how many people will benefit from moringa if it will be consumed on a regular basis.

  1. Moringa helps reduce high blood pressure.

If you have hypertension, here’s some good news for you. Moringa was found to have necessary compounds that help in the reduction of high blood pressure levels. Studies have shown that it is effective in doing so.

  1. Moringa helps reduce high cholesterol levels.

Many people in the world suffer from high cholesterol levels – and we are particularly talking about bad cholesterol. People with high cholesterol levels are found to be at higher risk in developing further health complications specifically heart ailments. That is why it is very important that people diagnosed with high cholesterol levels must take necessary medicines or supplements to avoid further health problems.

I have a question concerning any deleterious effects to the nutrional content of these recipes with respect to the high
heat needed to bake the cookies. Is there any references I can cite to show that high heat in baking does not degrade the
nutritional content of the maringa leaf power.
