Gone are the days when teachers were made to teach in the usual classroom setting. Because of innovations, teachers nowadays have a wide variety of options. Yes! They are no longer bound to teach inside the classroom, but they also can do online teaching, which is definitely an ideal setup especially to those who cannot afford to teach full-time or teach in school. The best example of this situation are teachers by profession who opted to stay at home to take care of their children.

Today, because online teaching is available, they now have the opportunity to teach and practice their profession in the comforts of their homes.

Just a quick fact from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. According to this entity, between 2014 and 2024, they have projected nearly 1.9 million job openings for teachers. Guess what? BLS is just talking about job opportunities for teachers of preschool through postsecondary school. Online teaching opportunities are not even included in the count yet! You see, teaching, apart from being a noble job is no-doubt, very in-demand too both online and offline.

Today, however, we are going to specifically focus on different online jobs for teachers. We are going to share with you the different opportunities available for you in the online world. Apart from that, we are also going to share some of the popular sites and companies that offer online jobs for teachers.

With that said, let’s start?

ONLINE JOBS FOR TEACHERS

Let’s go straight to the point. Let’s talk about the different online jobs for teachers. We have come up with a list of different online opportunities for teachers that you may want to look into and consider.

– Online Teacher

One of the most popular online jobs for teachers and even non-teaching people is — online English teaching. So, we thought you may want to check this video by Sofie’s World as she shares about how to teach English online. We thought her insights may be useful for you.

For those who want to continue to practice their teaching job, but wanted to do it from home, guess what? You still can! There are actually a lot of institutions out there that are opening up their doors to home-based teachers.

Some work from home teachers focuses on home-school students, while others prefer teaching adult learners or do corporate training programs.

For those who are wondering about how much an online teacher makes as compared to the usual school teacher, unfortunately, it’s hard to compare. However, if we are going to judge based on job advertisements and anecdotal reports, we have to say that if you are a K-12 teacher, you better be prepared to take a pay cut for teaching from home.

But this should not be a problem if you are a stay-at-home mom whose husband can afford to handle all the major bills, or are planning to move to a location with a lower cost of living.

– Online Tutor

Regardless of your specialty — whether it be ESL or computer science or SAT preparation — online tutoring can be a lucrative way of making a living from the comforts of your home.

There are a lot of online tutoring sites out there (later on we are going to share some of the popular ones) where you can land an online tutoring job.

By the way, apart from online teaching, online tutoring is one of the most popular online jobs for teachers today.

Thanks to technologies like Skype and other video conferencing software, they made online teaching and tutoring easier and manageable. Needless to say, more convenient for both students and teachers as compared to an in-person tutoring session. It’s also cheaper given that commuting cost is cut out.

– Teaching Materials Provider

If you have already practice your teaching profession before, in one way or another, you may have teaching materials already. Needless to say, perhaps these materials have been hones over the years of trial and error in the classroom.

Instead of just putting them aside, and not being used, why not share your knowledge and make your hard work pay off again and again by letting other teachers or education professionals make use of it, at the same time, pay you for that?

A website called Teachers Pay Teachers allows you to share your classroom decor, activities, as well as lesson plans, and more for a price. Yes, you earn from your hard work.

However, if you want to make big money, this is not for you. This will definitely not make you wealthy. You will basically earn just a couple of extra hundred a month. But then again, who really knows, right? If you have really good material, you may be able to earn big.

By the way, TpT does not only accept old teaching materials, but you can also make new ones and let other people make use of your idea.

– Curriculum Developer

According to Chegg Internships, a curriculum developer or sometimes called a curriculum specialist, are the ones who “decide and design what teachers teach”. Furthermore, they explained, “If the classroom were a theater, the Curriculum Developer would be the Playwright who creates the story and writes the dialogue.”

If you have practiced the profession for years, you probably know by now what works and what does not work.

So, instead of keeping things to yourself, why not consider working as a curriculum developer instead and put your expertise to good use.

Major job listing sites like Indeed do always have listings for curriculum developers. You just have to make sure you filter for home-based opportunities to ensure you land in a work from home job and not otherwise.

– Online Adjunct Professor or Instructor

Tenured gigs are becoming a thing of the past these days. However, the good thing is, post-secondary educators have a way to go, and that is by becoming a virtual professor/instructor. It’s actually just one of the many online jobs for teachers out there.

The opportunities for this specific job is growing, and to be honest, the relatively low salary for adjunct professors is a lot easier to take in when you can teach from home.

– Writing Coach

In a 2016 report by PayScale, it says that 44% of managers stated that writing skills are just one of the hard skills lacking in most newly grads. This is a sad reality, to be honest.

However, as a teacher by profession, having the right knowledge, you can do something to reverse the trend. How? Simple. By working with students as well as corporate clients to work on these essential professional skills.

It basically works similar to tutoring. Basically, writing coaching gigs have benefitted from technologies because you can teach them the skill via video conferencing. Thus, wherever you or your students are in the world, the thing is, your student has access to learning the skill, and you have the opportunity to share your expertise.

Amazing, right?

– Educational Consultant

We don’t live in a perfect world, do you agree?

Well, it’s not a secret that in the professional arena, consultants usually earn more than the regular employees — even if they offer the same expertise.

Which is why, if you have an entrepreneurial spirit, you actually may want to consider building a business coaching teachers and administrators, and earn more than the usual earnings of a teacher.

While this job is not entirely home-based, because you will likely need to meet and consult clients in person. Still, this is a good opportunity for anyone who wants to be their own boss as the job is very flexible.

– Test Scorer

One of the companies that are known to provide test scorer job opportunities is the Educational Testing Service or ETS. They are, on fact, always looking for online and onsite test scorer for GRE, TOEFL, and other tests.

This job is ideal for those who are looking for part-time and cyclical gigs only because the needs for the job usually vary over the course of the year.

– Educational Writer or Editor

Educational publishing is common among teachers who opt to leave teaching in the classroom.

Normally, freelance writers and editors earn $15 to $75 per hour depending on the person’s intensity of the focus, depth of research that is required for the material, and of course, the level of writing or reporting that needs to be done.

This is ideal for those who find freelance life very appealing. The number of employers across all industries that are already embracing flexible schedules, which include full-time telecommuting jobs, as well as contract assignments, is growing.
